Agents and models

Memory

What the agent remembers about you and your projects, where it is stored, and how to pin, edit or forget an item.

Memory lets the agent keep what it learned from one run to the next: your preferences, decisions made in a project, things that failed and why.

Memory is files on your computer. It is not sent to Graspable.

Two kinds

Kind About Stored in Managed in
Your memory You, across all projects ~/.graspable/memory Settings → Memory
Project memory One project .graspable/memory inside the project folder Project memory, under the file list

Each item is one Markdown file. A file named MEMORY.md in the same folder is a generated index for people to read.

How items get there

You add them.

  • In Settings → Memory, pick a kind, type a title and what to remember, and choose Remember.
  • In a project, type into Remember about this project… and press Enter.

The agent adds them. During a run the agent can save something it learned. After a run that changed files, it is also asked for a few lasting lessons, which are saved as project memory. The transcript shows these as "🧠 remembered".

Anything that looks like a secret, such as a key or password, is refused.

How the agent uses memory

The agent does not get your whole memory every time. It gets two things.

  • The most important items, always. These are the items you pinned, then what you said yourself, then conventions, preferences and decisions, then the items used most often. This part has a size limit.
  • A few items that match the request. For each request, Graspable looks for items that relate to what you asked and adds at most six. When nothing matches, nothing is added. The same happens again on a repair turn, where past failures and lessons count for more.

"Recalled" in the transcript

When items are added for a request, the transcript shows a line such as:

🧠 recalled: Cube hover colour; Use metric units

Hover over the line to see each item's kind and where it lives. On a repair turn the line reads "recalled for the fix".

To see the exact text the agent received, open Context at the top of the run panel and look for the recalled memory piece.

Open, pin, edit, forget

Click an item to read it. Under it you see where it came from ("You said this" or "Learned by the agent"), when, and how often it was used.

Move the pointer over an item to see its buttons.

  • Pin — the agent always gets this item. Click again to unpin.
  • Edit — change the title or text. An edited item counts as something you said.
  • Forget — the agent no longer gets it. The file stays in the memory folder, marked as archived.

In Settings → Memory, Tidy up merges items that say the same thing.

When items change

  • Saving something that is already known does nothing.
  • A newer item about the same subject replaces the older one. The older file is kept and marked as replaced.
  • What the agent infers never replaces what you said.
  • Nothing is deleted for being old.

An item marked ⚠ was learned with an older version of Graspable. Check that it still holds, then edit or forget it.

Limits

  • Matching is by words. A request that shares no word with an item will not recall it. Pin the items that matter most.
  • With the Codex CLI, the agent receives memory but cannot save new items during a run.
  • Memory helps the agent stay consistent. It is not a guarantee that the agent follows every item.

In cloud projects

When you move a project to the cloud, its memory and your memory travel with it and come back when you move it back. See Cloud agents.
